Introduction

Perspective drawing is a technique used in art to create the illusion of depth and three-dimensionality on a two-dimensional surface. It is important because it helps make drawings look realistic by accurately representing the way objects appear smaller as they recede into the distance. A key element of perspective drawing is the vanishing point, which is the point on the horizon line where parallel lines seem to converge. The horizon line represents the viewer’s eye level and is determined by observing where the sky meets the ground or the farthest visible plane in the scene. In perspective drawing, parallel lines, such as those of a road or railway, appear to get closer together as they approach the vanishing point. This phenomenon emphasizes depth and distance. Directional shading further enhances the three-dimensional form by simulating how light interacts with surfaces, creating highlights and shadows that give volume to objects. Combining these elements creates a more lifelike and immersive artwork

One-Point Perspective

We had to draw a dot in the middle of our page called the viewpoint and a horizontal line called horizon line to make the drawings look 3D,in the first image I did my initials (Nathaniel George Pompei), in the second one I drew a city and in the final one I drew the view from above 2 buildings using directional shading to enhance my drawings design. lines go towards the vanishing point to make the image 3D

Two-Point Perspective

This is just like one-point perspective but with 2 view points instead of 1, some of the lines have to go to the vanishing point on the left and some on the right, this can be used to create something even more 3D. below i was experimenting with this trying to make a set of stairs/pyramid

2 Point Perspective Cityscape

we had to draw a city using 2 point perspective to make it look 3D, we then had to add details like doors, windows and lines on the road using accurate lines

Evaluation

if I were making it again I would use a bit more 3d buildings layered on top to enhance my design and do it in A3 instead of A4. I learned how to draw 3D and 2 point perspective drawing which is easy once you learn how. I think my strengths were the details because I am very good at drawing but my weakness I wasn’t so good at making parts 3D as this is my first time doing it. If I had more time would add people and other cool things like vehicles.
