INTRODUCTION
Symmetry is a fundamental concept in mathematics and art that describes a sense of balance and proportion in objects or patterns. It occurs when one part of an object is a mirror image or an exact match of another part. The main types of symmetry include reflective symmetry, where one half is a mirror image of the other (like a butterfly’s wings); rotational symmetry, where an object looks the same after being rotated by a certain angle (like a star); and translational symmetry, where a pattern repeats at regular intervals (like wallpaper). Each type adds to the beauty and complexity of shapes and designs in nature and human creations.

Christmas Reflective Motif
We had to find images online, cut them out using object select tool and then duplicate and rotate our images, Once we did that we used gradient tool to make the background and text

Repeat and Rotate
From the image library we had to experiment with a parts of buildings, using Photoshop, we can use to repeat and rotate to create an interesting symmetrical forms.

Kaleidoscope
we had to use stock images to create a cool looking image, we used object selection tool to take items from pictures and use free transform to make them all fit together, then we duplicated and rotated them, we then combine all visible layers, duplicated them and rotated again and again. When we were finished we changed the colour of the picture

Final Reflection
I used the following tools:
- gradient tool (colour changing background)
- duplicate tool (duplicates the layer your on)
- free transform (rotate and change image size)
- combine visible layers (puts all visible layers together into one)
- object selector tool (selects the object in your image
- hue changer (changes colours of your image)
BRUTALISM
Brutalism is an architectural style that emerged in the mid-20th century, characterized by its use of raw, unadorned concrete and geometric, often imposing forms. The style emphasizes functionality over decoration, with buildings often featuring rough textures, large-scale structures, and bold, blocky shapes. Originally associated with post-war social housing and civic buildings, Brutalism sought to express honesty and transparency in construction, rejecting traditional ornamentation in favor of a more utilitarian, “honest” aesthetic. Despite its controversial and sometimes polarizing nature, Brutalism has left a lasting imprint on urban landscapes and architectural discourse.
Brutalist architecture was championed by a number of influential architects, including Le Corbusier, Alison and Peter Smithson, and Kallmann, McKinnell & Knowles. Le Corbusier’s design for the Unité d’Habitation in Marseille, a housing project that combines residential and communal spaces in a massive, concrete structure, is one of the most iconic examples of Brutalism. The Smithsons’ work, particularly their design for the Robin Hood Gardens housing complex in London, emphasized social housing with a focus on communal living. In the United States, architects like Paul Rudolph and the firm of Kallmann, McKinnell & Knowles embraced the style for both government buildings and educational institutions, such as the Boston City Hall and Yale University’s Art and Architecture Building. These architects and their buildings aimed to reflect the social ideals of the time, using raw materials and bold forms to create spaces that were functional, modern, and often challenging traditional notions of beauty.

BRUTALISM COLLAGES
we used the images in the Brutalist folder to experiment with Photoshop , we cut out and constructed abstract brutalist structures with crisp outlines that carve into a white background.

HALFWAY REVIEW
I have used a variety of tools to create my designs, Free transform to rotate and flip my images, Object selection tool to take out parts of an image, duplicate tool to mirror my designs. I have tried to make my designs look like the fit together but sometimes that doesn’t look the best so I decided to used a larger variety of buildings and shapes so it doesn’t look like a block in the middle of my page. I think I could add backgrounds and text to my brutalist collages to further my creative design. I might remove some of the random objects that I don’t think are needed to elevate my design.

FINAL REVIEW
I think my outcome is very effective because it is very brutalist. I put lots into my collage then deleted the unneeded parts to refine my artwork. I think it is aesthetically pleasing because it all fits perfectly when needed but when not needed it still looks good. I put my design in the middle and added bits on the outside. The layout is good because its not just a block in the middle. I used loads of layers and textures to elevate my collage design. I used some layers with small shapes and others with large parts of my picture. I merged sections together to change the size and angle of my images.
